Season Pass Deadline and Wind

Greetings procrastinators and hamster enthusiasts. Greetings, and congratulations, to organized people and those of you who prefer science to nonsense.  The past few weeks there have been several things keeping us plenty busy here at Bolton, including ski sales, weather defying rail jams, general paperwork including filing, preparing for the season pass deadline and, the latest news, our attempt to harness the great power of the wind for our own use.

Today, I'd like to take some time to discuss just two topics. I promise to make it worthwhile by attempting to be entertaining and informative. If I come up short then you should probably buy tickets to see a Penn and Teller show, those guys are always informative and entertaining (the only thing that could make them better would be monkeys)

Season Pass Deadline

Got the kids back to school? Check.

Renewed your AAA membership? Check.

Finished writing your thank you cards from Christmas? Check?

Got your season pass for the coming season at Bolton Valley? If you did not answer "Check" to this one then you need to put off thanking Aunt Edna for that wonderful 12 pack of polyester ties she got you last Christmas and get your pass for the season. The deadline is September 21. Or, you can wait if you want to. We'll sell it to you later, November works, so does February, but it probably would be best to get it before the price goes up on Monday so you can save some money. Unless you have money to burn, in which case you could always buy several extra passes, one for each member of your squirrel army perhaps.  Bottom line, remember how much fun you had last year at Bolton? Then getting a pass by Monday would be a good idea.

Wind Turbine

I have always been a fan of alternative power sources. My favorite is the hamster in the wheel. I like to think that most businesses have a hamster in a wheel that they are using to power their most important piece of machinery.  So when the idea of trying to offset some energy costs and be more environmentally friendly came up for discussion I was (and still am) strongly on the side of getting more hamsters. Besides creating power they are so darn cute.

However, smarter and more rational people prevailed and we're going to be installing a wind turbine at the peak. It's going to be a pretty cool tower that will generate 300,000 kilowatt hours per year, about 1/8 of the resort's power on an annual basis. We announced the plan last week and construction has already started. Check out some pictures here of the work being done so far. We plan to have the tower finished and generating power by mid to late November. For more information on the tower check the links on this page. It should be pretty neat to see it up there and you will be able to ski right by it every time you take the Vista Quad.

I still think we should invest in more hamsters to meet our nation's power needs but apparently no one outside of the hamsterpower.com discussion board seems to agree with me.

Until next time, make sure you get your pass. (and please, get your thank you notes out no later than three months after receiving a gift next time)
